Here are reports by Urban Reforestation regarding our project Target 3008 in the Docklands, Melbourne, supported by the Victorian Government’s Sustainability Fund and a large amount of in-kind support.
Photographer and environmentalist Michael Chew recently spent a year in Bangladesh working on climate adaptation, and is now running a campaign with the new Melbourne group Bangladesh Peasant Solidarity Network to fundraise and to share stories and images from the marginalised in Bangladesh.
It is wonderful to see "Urban Reforestation" happening in a very progressive way in New York City. This is a model to inspire other cities, like Melbourne! So, here is a run-down of what "Reforestation" means to New York City, headed up by Mayor Bloomberg as part of PlaNYC to make New York City greener and more sustainable by 2030.
Permablitz (noun): An informal gathering involving a day on which a group of at least two people come together to achieve the following:
- create or add to edible gardens where someone lives
- share skills related to permaculture and sustainable living
- build community networks
- have fun
Emily the director of Urban Reforestation was lucky enough to visit Rob Hopkins office yesterday to research the Transition Towns Movement. Thank you very much to Transition Towns Network and in particular Francis for being such a wonderful host. There is a movement for sustainable living going on and it is grounded in place. This means there is tangible ways for communities and individuals to be active citizens in making a difference towards sustainability together under an exciting movement called Transition Towns.
