As a part of the Sustainable Living Festival 2013 (our 6th time to participate!), Urban Reforestation ran a workshop called "new way of being". In essence the workshop was about 'being' in a natural environment in the middle of the city.
The new Noble Park Community Garden is an initiative of Noble Park Community Centre and is strongly supported by local council and local businesses. Together with key stakeholders, Noble Park Community Centre and Urban Reforestation are seeking to define a vision for the site that will deliver an exemplar community garden for the benefit of local residents and the Noble Park Community Centre visitors. Key to the success of this project is the engagement of the local community in the design and delivery of the space, to build support and energy for the project and as a tool to assist in community building.
Here are the Urban Reforestation reports on our Target 3008 project at Docklands, Melbourne, supported by the Victorian Government's Sustainability Fund and a large amount of in-kind support.
Urban Reforestation Melbourne would like to know your implementation plan. Who will be engaging the community in 're-foresting' Melbourne?
Urban Reforestation Melbourne is an organisation which is equipped to assist the City of Melbourne to achieve their objectives (similar to Green Thumb in New York). Is there a way to partner with social business likes ours in your community to ensure it is not just going to be a 'top down' strategy in the implementation. There needs to be capacity building from the 'bottom up' for a strategy like "Urban Forest" to come to life.
Urban Reforestation is pleased to announce there is an Urban Forest Strategy for Melbourne. For more information please see the City of Melbourne's link below.
City of Melbourne aims to adapt our city to climate change - mitigate the urban heat island effect by bringing our inner city temperatures down - create healthier ecosystems - become a water sensitive city - engage and involving the community.
