Urban Reforestation would like to share some facts on Havana, Cuba which has an inspiring Urban Agriculture program.

The Provincial Physical Planning Directorate of Havana identified unused land areas and set up a Provincial Commission to set guidelines for the establishment of urban agriculture and define conditions for agricultural use of urban land.

Today the Feeding Milan Project ran it’s beautiful and engaging market. At this stage, designers have activated several local projects for the Feeding Milan Project and the Earth Market is one of them. The Earth Market held today is a monthly farmers’ market, the first in Milan!  The market has been running since December 2009 and is a great example of how community can come together as well as share local fresh food.

An exciting announcement! 

In collaboration with Brentwood Secondary College, Urban Reforestation is designing and constructing an educational learning garden for the school. We are so pleased to be assisting the school as we have been involved with Brentwood's progressive Green Teams work over the past two years. This is our flagship secondary college garden project. The aim of the garden is to teach students about environment and sustainability through gardening, sustainable living programs, energy and water efficiency and much more. Thea Nicholas the schools Sustainability Teacher is driving the project and hopes to create positive environmental changes in the school through this garden. ON THE EDGE FORUM

On the Edge Forum, October 25th 2011 For the past year Urban Reforestation has been working with a wonderful group of people from different organisations around Melbourne, including Village Well, the Food Alliance, Victorian Eco Innovation Lab and RMIT.  We are exploring and challenging the ‘re-thinking’ and ‘re-designing’ of our peri-urban agricultural landscape. We are holding a forum with international guests to bring this issue to attention on the 25th of October 2011.
