Community gardens are places where people come together to grow fresh food, to learn, relax and make new friends. They are so important for creating community life in a place, building awareness around sustainable living and having fun!
Last week I wrote a piece about Creative Communities: 'A call to Action'. My point was Victorians can not just rely on the government to design our communities and places for us. It is evident individuals and communities need to play a much stronger and creative role in the process of designing and caring for place.
On Sunday 15th of July the Docklands Community Garden was opened in the middle of this new suburb. This is the product of hard work over three years of the Docklands Community, Cultivating Community, government, and a social enterprise I am involved with called Urban Reforestation.

Melbourne’s love of bringing life to hidden spaces has sprouted in Docklands with the opening of its Community Garden in Geographe Street Docklands on Sunday 15 July, in a joint initiative from Urban Reforestation, Places Victoria and the City of Melbourne.
